Fleetwood Max
I had the opportunity to show Max during the 2007 show season for Tanya and Verna Sprague. He was an extremely talented gelding with a
big powerful backend and a heart of gold. He was not the easiest horse to ride though. If you weren't careful he'd slip into a step pace and you'd
barely even know.
Max was a great horse to work with. He was fun to take down the road or work in the arena. He was always willing to try anything for me. While I was working with him we did jumping, arena trail and practiced for horse dancing. He took everything in stride and was a wonderful horse.
We had a pretty good couple of shows at the start of the season. Competition was tough and we had to work hard for every class. At the Great Northern Regional Versatility Show he was Halter Champion! Unfortunately at the Alberta Celebration he was not 100%. He was short striding. A few years before he had injuried his hind leg and it seemed that it was starting to bother him again. He went home after that to be checked out by the vet.
Max needed to be put on stall rest for his leg to heal. Everything was going well. But one day while he was grazing on the yard he got into some wire and injured his other hind leg. With his previous injury he would not be able to support himself so his new injuries could heal. The difficult decision was made to put him down in October of 2007.

Max will be greatly missed. He was a great show horse and a great trail horse. He logged many miles with owner Tanya in both Canmore and Drayton Valley. He was an amazing horse and a great example of a Tennessee Walking Horse.
